Overview of Stainless Steel Steel Round Bar

JINDALAI STEEL stocks a full range of stainless round bar from 1/16″ round thru 26″ in diameter. Nearly all grades of stainless steel are stocked in round bar, including 302, 303, 304/L, 309/S, 310/S, 316/L, 317/L, 321, 321/H, 347, 347H, 410, 416, 420, 440C, 17-4PH, Duplex 2205 and Alloy 20. Our stainless steel round bar is generally sold in the annealed condition, although some grades such as 17-4 or certain 400 series grades may be hardened by heat-treating. Finishes on bars can vary and include cold drawn, centerless ground, smooth turned, rough turned, turned ground and polished.

The Difference Between Round Bar and Precision Ground Bar

Round bar is exactly as it sounds; a long, cylindrical metal bar. Round bar is available in many different diameters ranging from 1/4" up to 24".

Precision ground bar is manufactured through induction hardening. Induction hardening is a non-contact heating process which uses electromagnetic induction to produce the required heat. Centerless ground bar is typically produced by turning and grinding the surface to a specified size.

Precision Ground Bar, also known as ‘Turned Ground and Polished’ shafting, refers to round bars made with fine precision and high-quality steel. They are polished to ensure flawless and perfectly straight surfaces. The manufacturing process is designed for extremely close tolerances for surface finish, roundness, hardness, and straightness which ensures a long service life with reduced maintenance.
