● Overview of High-speed tool steel
High-speed steel (HSS or HS) is a subset of tool steels, which is commonly used as cutting tool material.
High speed steels (HSS ) get their name from the fact that they may be operated as cutting tools at much higher cutting speeds than is possible with plain carbon tool steels. High-speed steels operate at cutting speed 2 to 3 times higher than for carbon steels.
When a hard material is machined at high speed with heavy cuts, sufficient heat may be developed to cause the temperature of the cutting edge to reach a red heat. This temperature would soften carbon tool steel containing even up to 1.5 per cent carbon to the extent of destroying their cutting ability. Certain highly alloyed steels, designated as high-speed steels, therefore, have been developed which must retain their cutting properties at temperatures up 600°C to 620°C.
● Characteristics and scope of application
It is a tungsten high carbon high vanadium high speed steel with drill. It has high wear resistance, hardness and tempering resistance, and improves high temperature hardness and red hardness. Its durability is more than twice that of ordinary high speed steel. It is suitable for machining difficult-to-machine materials such as medium-high strength steel, cold-rolled steel, cast alloy steel and low-alloy ultra-high strength steel, and is not suitable for manufacturing high-precision complex tools. The strength and toughness of this steel are low and the cost is expensive.

(1) Hardness
It can still maintain high hardness at the working temperature of about 600 ℃. Red hardness is a very important property of steel for hot deformation dies and high-speed cutting tools.
(2) Abrasion resistance
It has good wear resistance, that is, the ability to resist wear. The tool can still maintain its shape and size under the condition of bearing considerable pressure and friction.
(3) Strength and toughness
Cobalt-containing high speed tool steel is based on general high speed tool steel and can be significantly improved by adding a certain amount of cobalt

It has certain high temperature mechanical properties, thermal fatigue, thermal conductivity, wear and corrosion resistance, etc.

● Smelting method of CPM Rex T15 solid bar
Electric furnace or electroslag remelting method shall be adopted for smelting. Smelting method requirements shall be specified in the contract. If not specified, the supplier shall select.
● Heat treatment specification and metallographic structure: heat treatment specification: quenching, 820~870 ℃ preheating, 1220~1240 ℃ (salt bath furnace) or 1230~1250 ℃ (box furnace) heating, oil cooling, 530~550 ℃ tempering 3 times, 2 hours each time.
● Delivery status of CPM Rex T15 solid bar
The steel bars shall be delivered in the annealed state, or after being annealed and processed by other processing methods, the specific requirements shall be specified in the contract.
