The Benefits of AR Steel?

Jindalai Steel supplies AR steel plate in large and small volumes to designers and plant operators looking to extend the service life of critical components and reduce the weight of each unit put into service. The benefits of employing wear-resistant steel plate in applications involving impact and/or sliding contact with abrasive material are immense.

Abrasion resistant steel plate is extremely durable and wear-resistant, defending well against scuffs and scratches. This type of steel works well in harsh applications, and also offers some impact resistance. Wear resistant steel plate will ultimately help extend the life of your applications and reduce your costs in the long-run.

Properties of AR400 AND AR500 Steel Plates

AR400 is “thru-hardened”, abrasion resistant, alloy wear plate. Hardness range is 360/440 BHN with a nominal hardness of 400 BHN. Service Temperature is 400°F. This plate product is intended for use in applications where a good balance of formability, weldability, toughness and abrasion resistance are required. Abrasion resistant steels are typically sold to hardness range and not a fixed chemistry. Slight variations in chemistry are present depending upon the producing mill. Applications may include use in mining, quarries, bulk material handling, steel mills, and pulp & paper industries. Wear plate products are designed for liner applications; they are not intended for use as self-supporting structures or lifting devices.

AR500 is a “thru-hardened”, abrasion resistant, alloy wear plate. Hardness range is 470/540 BHN with a nominal hardness of 500 BHN. AR400 VS AR450 VS AR500+ Steel Plates

Different mills may have different “recipes” for AR steel, but produced material is administered a hardness test – known as the Brinell Test – to determine the category in which it falls. Brinell tests performed on AR steel materials typically meet ASTM E10 specifications for testing material hardness.

The technical difference between AR400, AR450 and AR500 is the Brinell Hardness Number (BHN), which indicates the material’s level of hardness.

AR400: 360-440 BHN Typically
AR450: 430-480 BHN Typically
AR500: 460-544 BHN Typically
AR600: 570-625 BHN Typically (less common, but available)
